What went well today:
- Good weather--got a bit warm in the last afternoon but was clear and temperate most of the day.
- Slept in this morning. Went back to bed after breakfast (late) and then got out in early afternoon. Went to MV for a sandwich. Place I went, Romanza, is a bookstore with a cafe upstairs. When I arrived, the entire upper area had people sitting at all of the tables. Every person had a computer on the table. At some tables there were two people and two computers. It looked like a training class. Surreal!
- Watched a movie, The Leopard, in the afternoon. I had seen this movie before but didn't catch that fact when I picked up the DVD. It didn't get better with age. I was surprised that I recalled as much of the film as I did this time around. There were several big scenes with dozens of people dancing in a castle setting. Had to be a major feat to film those sequences. Actors were in elaborate costumes (dresses, uniforms, tuxedos, and such, plus the servants). Burt Lancaster was the key actor. Film was shot in Italian with a special version created for the US market. So, it was dubbed in English and was about 20 minutes shorter than the European version.
- Will be going to the H's tomorrow to read aloud from Flaubert's Parrot.
- I've been hearing a strange bird whistle at night and in the mornings. As I stepped out today, I believe I glimpsed a parakeet or budgie flying overhead. Will keep looking to see if it's staying around the place.
