The dog and I worked out a solution to the return the thrown ball problem. I noticed that when the dog had the ball, and started to return my way, that he would veer onto a track that would take him to the back door. If the door was left open, he would actually take the ball all the way into the house. I shut the door and threw the ball. He charged after it, grabbed it, and took it back to the doormat outside the closed back door. I threw it again and he once again took the ball to the closed back door where he eventually dropped it on the doormat. We played this game for quite a while. He eventually went after the ball, and got sidetracked by some errant odor that he detected. He then dropped the ball where he stood and began his own private sniffing game. Later, on a subsequent outdoor jaunt, I recovered the ball and began the throwing game (with the back door closed). He faithfully charged after it and brought it back to the doormat!
Now does this mean that when my daughter returns to claim her trusty companion that I'll have to get up each morning and throw the ball with him? Is he trained to chase a ball at that specific time of day or am I trained to throw a ball around that hour?
Besides playing retrieve with the pooch today, I only made it out to grab a bite to eat. I felt like going someplace new and stopped at a small cafe that I had seen in passing. It turns out that the place is like a displaced East Coast kosher-style eatery. They serve matzo ball soup, latkes, and piled-high sandwiches. The place is a totally out-of-place phenomena! The sandwich I ordered was huge and came with soup, potato salad or french fries and coleslaw. My stomach is still gurgling and growling!
Tomorrow is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Thursday--shoppers will rule! We're not celebrating the fete day until Saturday because of people's different schedules. Will be somewhat strange to not feast on the fete day, but what the hey!
I'll be heading to yoga class tomorrow morning, do a Pilates class on the fete day and one on the morning of the delayed fete day. I will probably throw a ball or two over these days so dog gets his workouts as well.
