July 4th and the heat still lingers! Final fireworks are being crescendoed in the evening skies. Hopefully it will cool down, as promised, tomorrow.
Had dreams last night that were takeoffs of scenes in the movie I watched (Shame). The scenes in the film triggered similar dream scenes. The only difference was that the other people in my dream scenes were people that I've known. Made for a strange and eerie dreaming!
Watched a film this evening (as the fireworks flew and faded)--Matewan. The film is about a small mining town in the 1920's that became a battleground between coal miners, coal companies, and parasitical side factions. The material in the film is based on an actual set of events that ended in what is recorded as the "Matewan Massacre". The content of the film was interesting and made a good story and film script. The film, however, was a bit slow and drawn out--it was turgid and in some cases muddled. The film attempts to weave more than a few issues (worker abuse, corporate greed, violence against union organizations, vigilante justice, and several other items) into a whole. The attempt fails and results in a lengthy, slow-moving film.
Tomorrow there is a resistance class and hopefully some cooler weather. Let it be so! Let it be!
