4987-4985

Had a tasty dinner with BH/GH on Friday night. We watched the first debate (presidential) and then watched the movie Distant--a second film by the creator of Climates--Nuri Bilge Ceylan of Turkey. It was informative to see both of his movies back-to-back. Like most of the different works we've been viewing, each director has a style/signature that can best be seen by watching several of their works.

The debate was about as expected. The polls are saying that Obama did better than McPain. Will be interesting to see what the GOP does with the Veep's debate on Thursday.

Went to GH's living room show today. The show was formulated around the works of Proust, Auden and Gertrude Stein. I'd seen/heard the Proust/Stein parts before, but in today's context (different people/setting), it had new resonations.

My friend PH and her friend LS came to the show. There were 10 people in the audience. It was a comfortably-sized group and an interesting mix of different ages and such.

MA came by today and cleaned the place. She's heading for Hawaii this week. She's never been--she'll love it!

I'm flipping back and forth with my sleep patterns and symptoms. I got to bed really late last night. I stayed up watching TV and reading. Tina Fey's SNL sketch doing Palin was hilarious, but I could have watched it today online instead of wobbling into the early morning hours.

Beginnings and endings! The search for where to restart! What to do until the sun arises!

4991-4988

Uncertain times! Daily oscillations, perturbations, and concern! The times of 2012 appear to be emerging early. What will the futures bring?

Week went well. Had lunch at BH's on Monday. GH and I watched a Turkish movie called Climates. Engrossing film! Focused on the relationship of a younger woman and an older man. The film traversed the seasons (the climates) of their associations.

Went to PD exercise class this week. Felt good to attend the class. Some discussion of DBS--several people in the class have had the procedure. DBS--deep brain stimulation--a pacemaker for the brain. I couldn't help but think about my symptoms versus those of other people in the class. Mine are relatively light when compared with all of the others.

Got word today that an old childhood friend of mine has died. RS, who has a twin brother, passed away this week. Blessings his way! Adios!

Have an acupressure session tomorrow--and lunch with BH and movie with GH. The weekend begins--again!

4994-4992

Saw ultrasound images today of my daughter's baby. She's a girl! Incredible! I have another grandchild on her way.

Was good to see my daughter. She's about midterm now and looks well--peaceful and relaxed.

Had lunch (delicious) at BH's yesterday. GH and I watched La Nina Santa (The Holy Girl). Directed by the woman who did La Cienaga (The Swamp). Many similar themes--pools of water, spas, sexuality, complexity of lives, and so forth. La Nina Santa was more intricate than La Cienaga.

I felt pretty good over the weekend. I'm still sleeping a lot. Getting used to taking a later afternoon siesta. No choice!

I keep thinking that one day I'll have slept enough--may it be so, soon!

4998-4995

On Monday, had lunch with BH and then watched La Cienaga (The Swamp) with GH. Good film--images from the film have sustained all week.

No PD class this week--I did some exercise on my own, but it's not the same as going to class.

Will have an acupressure session in the morrow. Lunch and visit with GH/BH has been postponed for tomorrow. Will see them on Saturday. Weather has cooled a lot. Fall is upon us.

As has become regular, I've slept a lot over the past week. Cooler weather makes it easier to sleep during the day. Followed the economic turmoil throughout the week. Markets swinging like monkeys in the trees--up and down and all around.

Reading a fair amount. Went through 3 or 4 books over the past few weeks.

5004-4999

Yesterday was day count 5000. 2300 days since I started this journal. 6+ years! And the count goes on!

Past week went well. Made a couple of walks. Went to the PD class. Had an acupressure session.

Watched Punch-Drunk Love with GH on Friday. Movie used almost subliminal color and sound to bolster the action on the screen. So much can be embedded in a film--stuff that may only be clearly noted by watching the movie several times. The hidden mysteries of life!

Tomorrow, the world's financial state may tilt--there have been a lot of weekend activities around the financial institutes and their health. The political scene continues to unfold in strange ways. I continue to stay up late and sleep a lot during the day.

5006-5005

Went to Pleasantville today--the movie that I watched with GH--a metaphor for prejudice, shaking up the status quo. Beautifully done with a magical use of color and black and white. A lot of subtleties and allusions to other films and stories.

BH/GH made a tasty lunch--I was well fed. Today was significantly cooler. I'm still out of sync with how I feel and when I feel in balance and energized. I continue to want to sleep during the day and stay up late at night. It's like my bio-clock has been torqued in some way--I don't feel a lot of energy--I just want to sleep.

Days flow by, rush past. I want to shift and change, but can't find the handle, the doorway through the morass. I have to find a way to make things happen. Will do some walking in the morrow!

5011-5007

Warm week and weekend! The arctic ice has to be melting. It's way too warm! US Open got rained out today. Nadal's fate won't be known until tomorrow. Hurricane Hannah made its presence felt all the way to NY. Hurricane Ike is on its way. And we had a 4.2 quake here in this area. The weather and natural phenomena keeps on happening.

Had a good lunch at BH's on Friday. GH and I then watched Sunrise--one of the last silent movies. It, like several of the others we have watched, had few story cards. The acting told the story.

Had an acupressure session on Friday and went to a PD class on Wednesday. Still need to be doing more exercise--when the weather cools down. Plan to sign up for a workshop at the PD institute that will be given later this month.

Will soon be the first day of Fall! Where did the Summer go? Gone to flowers everyone!

5014-5012

Gustav wasn't as gusty as he might have been! Thank goodness! Aside from the dislocations created by the evacuations, things seemed to have turned out better than predicted for the people of NOLA. Hannah and Ike are on their way though--could be more disruption still.

Felt good this weekend. I think the acupressure session on Friday kicked loose some positive energies. I'm still foggy cognitively--I can't seem to recall details of past events all that well--I get the gist of things, but cannot connect the links to specifics.

Had a great lunch at BH's today! Her garden was filled with hummingbirds! Clicking and flicking everywhere! Made me think of old folk song: Hummingbird! Amazing that I can recall the lyrics! Some things don't go away. Heard a news story about people in near vegetative states being revived when given Ambien (sleep medication). The drug lights up the brain in some people.

Have to wonder what can be done to restore functionality by bathing the brain in "light"! I'm coming to the conclusion that I need to establish a more structured way of being--so that I can try different things, record results, and monitor my condition over time. This approach was brought to consciousness by the timed walking activity that we've been doing at the PD class.

Doing so seems clear to me in my periods of clarity--not so clear in my periods of fog.

Watched Pandora's Box with GH today. Another silent film--one of the last ones that was made right before the "talkies" emerged. It was like watching an early Hitchcock mystery in terms of plot and sustained suspense.

Have an appointment with one of my doctors tomorrow--the psychotherapist! Just a check in appointment!
